December Recap

It's been awhile since I posted. That's probably because the month of December got away from me a little bit. Then it was Christmas, and nobody blogs during Christmas. Anyway. Here's what I was up to.

  • Got the keys to our new apartment. Well, technically, it's a condo. But only because it's a privately owned unit in an apartment complex.
  • Started moving in to the new place.
  • Continued moving.
  • Moved over the large furniture {turns out, we have a lot of stuff}.
  • Cleaned the old place.
  • Went to Bear Lake for some pre-Christmas fun
  • Went to Barnwell for more Christmas fun
  • Had Christmas at home with my whole family for the first time in 3 years.
  • Saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
  • Back to America/Bear Lake
  • Celebrated New Year's Even in our new apartment
Like I said, the month kind of got away from me. This list doesn't even include the friends I hung out with, Christmas shopping, and playing Beatles Rockband with my siblings {which is pretty much the best thing ever}.

December was rough and busy but also full of awesome.

My Trip Home

Did you like how I wrote a post about catching up, and then didn't write for almost a week? Sorry about that. Time has just been getting away from me lately. So, here's what's been going on.

Almost two weeks ago, I went home. My little brother came home from his mission, and I really wanted to see him again. My dad was super awesome, and helped me pay for a plane ticket. Usually when I go home, I drive. But since I had to make the trip myself, flying was much safer than driving for 12 hours all by my self. Can I just say how awesome it is to go home in less than a day? Seriously. It's the best.

Being home was great. I didn't get a lot accomplished, but I got in some good family time. And some good sleeping. Because I'm lazy. I also got attacked by a glass of ginger beer. It's a good story, although kind of embarrassing  Essentially, I drank too much beer too fast, and I developed a cough. Then it morphed into a cold, and I'm still sick. Rats.

Another highlight was taking my brother shopping for some real clothes. He's not much of a shopper, but he needed some new things pretty badly. My sister and I drug him all over, and he got a bit cranky. But we were in public, so he couldn't get too upset.

Although I love my husband, and love my friends in Provo, leaving home is always hard. Hopefully I'll be back this summer (with Luke) for an extended trip. For real though. There is nothing better than a Southern Alberta sunset. Or spring. Or summer. Or anything.

I suppose that in a post about seeing my brother, I should have written about him a bit more. Here's all you need to know, really. He's been gone for 2 years, and hasn't changed a bit. Not a bit. I'm not particularly surprised.

Family

My "little" brother left on his mission a few months ago. This is one of the last pictures we took together. I look a little....odd....but I still really love it.

Auld Lang Syne

Happy new year, friends! I rang in the new year with my family, watching How To Train Your Dragon. Then I stayed up until forever, watching movies with R. and T. Then, I slept in. I spent today at my grandparent's house making food and playing games. In my family, we have this new years tradition of making dinner from a foreign country. This year, we decided to do England. So we made dishes like Toad in the Hole and Bubble and Squeak. And we had Christmas crackers.

I've spent the last few days thinking back on the past year. A lot has happened. I've moved twice. I took my first screen writing class. I got my wisdom teeth out, and I got braces. I bought my first pair of skinny jeans. I learned a lot about life and love. I'm excited for what this year will bring.

And since it is a new year, that means that it's time for resolutions. This year, I've decided to not set strict resolutions.  I'd rather just set goals that will make me happy. So, here are my goals:

- go on a trip (preferably off the continent)
- graduate from college
- be more dedicated to my vegetarian diet
- kiss a cute boy
- add more to my bucket list
- do something drastic with my hair
- eat something ridiculously unhealthy
- make something crafty

So, dear reader, how was your new year's? Did you set any resolutions?

Thanksgiving (Two Days Late....)

This year I'm giving thanks for....

  • My family
  • My friends
  • the opportunity to study screen writing at BYU
  • my lovely apartment that I'm renting at a lower rate
  • my scooter, and the freedom that comes with it.
  • the fact that we're actually having a fall this year
  • good music
  • great classmates and associates and professors
  • my job
  • my new haircut
and counting....

100 Thoughts and my Melancholy

Well dear friends, this is it. Post 100. And on my last day of senior year. Strange how times goes by. Almost a year ago, I started this blog. Now, 365-ish days later, I find myself at the end of another school year, in a very different place in my life. I won't lie to you and say that I love where I'm at. There are things about me, and about my situation that I don't particularly care for. But that's not to say that I'm not enjoying it. This is the only time in my life where in the morning I can go to class/work and be all adult-like, and at night dress up like a pirate and take over campus. I can have that perfect mix of the adult life, and being carefree. Well, some of the time.

I'm packing up, and getting ready to move home. For the first time since my freshman year, I will be living at home for all four months of summer break. I'm so excited to see my family. But it's going to be an interesting change. I've been living on my own for the past two years. I hope I can adjust to living with people again.

New adventures, new friends to make. I like that idea, and at the same time, I'm scared to let go of what I have. I've survived everything so far, right? I mean, I was able to part with London. If I can do that, I can do anything.

On This, the Day of Thanksgiving...

I am thankful for:

0. The Gospel.
1. My family.
2. My friends.
3. Luke.
4. Canada.
5. Chocolate.
6. BYU
7. Being a film student.
8. Beatles Rockband.

My Weekend Away

I just got back from one of the greatest weekends ever. And when I say just, I mean a few days ago. Luke took me home to meet his parents/see his house/get out of Provo. It was fantastic! Mike and Katie came with us, which made the trip. I couldn't have asked for better company. Highlights of the trip include:
-driving around in the dark in rural Idaho.
-meeting Luke's parents (who are absolutely amazing. They are some of the nicest people I know, and I'm so grateful for them and their hospitality)
-meeting Luke's goats
-driving around seeing all the places where Luke grew up (which was great!)
-drinking wassail and sitting in front of a fire while playing cards with some of my very favourite people
-"kitten piles" and "ya'll be frontin'" and "you....are a goat".
-riding in a Model T
-watching Mike and Luke push the T up a rather snowy hill.
-homemade ice cream at Grandma's

There was a lot more, but this plus Facebook pictures gives you a pretty good idea. I can't wait to go back!

Fam Bam!

Ethan, Me, Logan, at the almost top of a mountain.

Cousins! For the first time, there are more non-siblings than siblings, regarding my immediate family. (Did that make sense?)

Rachel and me. <3 her!

<3 him, too.

Dock jumping. My new favourite thing!

Probably my favourite picture of me and my siblings EVER.

Temporary Hiatus

Well, my dear blogging community, tomorrow I am off to the Seattle area for a family reunion. I'm so excited to go and see my family!!!! I probably won't have internet access, but I'll fill you in after I get back. Try not to miss me too much while I'm gone. Oh, and feel sorry for me, when I wake up at 4 tomorrow in order to catch my 8am flight out of Salt Lake. That's just an ungodly time of day, if you ask me.
