Our Holiday Break

You know how they say that as you get older, time starts to go faster? Well boy if that ain't true. I didn't even put up my tree this year! I mean, I was totally, definitely going to (cough cough), I just ran out of time.

And do you know what happens when you're short on time? I do. You get really bad at remembering to take pictures of your beloved family while on vacation. Sorry family. But here are a few pics from our trip to Canada for Christmas and Idaho for New Years.

Strange rainbow almost-halo driving to the border. This doesn't really do it justice.

Sharing this solely for that snoot. Meet Ruby the Snuggler.

Happy New Year, friends!

December Recap

It's been awhile since I posted. That's probably because the month of December got away from me a little bit. Then it was Christmas, and nobody blogs during Christmas. Anyway. Here's what I was up to.

  • Got the keys to our new apartment. Well, technically, it's a condo. But only because it's a privately owned unit in an apartment complex.
  • Started moving in to the new place.
  • Continued moving.
  • Moved over the large furniture {turns out, we have a lot of stuff}.
  • Cleaned the old place.
  • Went to Bear Lake for some pre-Christmas fun
  • Went to Barnwell for more Christmas fun
  • Had Christmas at home with my whole family for the first time in 3 years.
  • Saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
  • Back to America/Bear Lake
  • Celebrated New Year's Even in our new apartment
Like I said, the month kind of got away from me. This list doesn't even include the friends I hung out with, Christmas shopping, and playing Beatles Rockband with my siblings {which is pretty much the best thing ever}.

December was rough and busy but also full of awesome.

"Resolutions"

Here it is, the second week of January, and I'm finally getting around to writing down my goals for the year. I decided a while ago that I don't like the word 'resolutions', because it sounds so final and imposing. So I set goals, instead. Over the coming year, I'll update with my progress. I may even expand on this list. For now, here's my outline.

1. Be a better friend.
I'm a great friend when I see you, but I'm not always the best at keeping in touch. I want to change that. Look out, friends, because I might just insert myself into your life a little bit. Cards, letters, email, Skype, visits, all will be utilized.

2. Be healthier.
This is the standard resolution people always set. I have some weight loss goals, and I want to eat better (more veggies, less fast food). It's a lifestyle change, so I know it's' going to take a while. Ultimately, I'd like to be more flexible, fit my clothes a little better, and practice yoga a lot more.

3. Try one new recipe a week
I got two cookbooks for Christmas, and a bunch for my wedding. Plus, I'm always finding something good on Pinterest. I want to expand my cooking abilities and stop hoarding recipes. Added bonus: I'll probably share some of them here.

4. Be more creative
This is pretty broad, I know. But I like having my hand in several different creative things. Writing for sure, is one of my favourites. I've also become enamored with embroidery and home decor. There's lots that I enjoy doing, and I want to spend more time creating and less time consuming.

5. Travel
My brother comes back from California in March, my cousin gets married in May, our anniversary is in August, and Luke graduates in December. I would love to celebrate all of these with a trip somewhere. Granted, this means that I have to work hard in order to afford such things. But it seems worth it, to me.

In Like a Lion

Well, it's been 7 days of the new year. This week has been a baptism by fire for 2013. Things have been crazy, work has been a disaster, and I had to make the trek from Canada to Provo. I am seriously hoping that things calm down a bit. You know how they say that March "comes in like a lion and out like a lamb", or vice versa? I'm thinking it's true for this year, too.

A New Year

I was going to write this before the new year, but I'm lazy and didn't get to it.

A lot happened last year. I finally submitted the paperwork for the Green Card. And then I kind of did some things about it so I can actually get it. We moved. I graduated. I got a job. I got to go to Home for the first time in a long time. It's been a busy year.

I don't know what's in store for this year. I'd like to actually get the Green Card. I'd like to find a new job. I'd like to fix up our apartment a little.

I've been thinking about resolutions and such. Last year I wrote a bit about how I don't like resolutions because they seem so final. So I made goals instead. I think I will do the same this year. Only this time, I'll keep up with them a bit more.

A Birthday!

Today is Luke's birthday! Happy 25th, love!

And yes, these all have me, too. But I don't have any recent ones of just him.

Happy Holiday

Here's an embarrassing thing. All day I've been thinking it's Saturday. Since this week has been a holiday, nothing has felt quite "right".  So today has been Saturday in my mind. I've been mourning the end of my vacation. But NO. I have four more glorious days. And now that I'm at the in-laws house, I've got nothing to do but relax. And do laundry. And help prepare Thanksgiving dinner. And do some sewing projects. And relax.

Auld Lang Syne

Happy new year, friends! I rang in the new year with my family, watching How To Train Your Dragon. Then I stayed up until forever, watching movies with R. and T. Then, I slept in. I spent today at my grandparent's house making food and playing games. In my family, we have this new years tradition of making dinner from a foreign country. This year, we decided to do England. So we made dishes like Toad in the Hole and Bubble and Squeak. And we had Christmas crackers.

I've spent the last few days thinking back on the past year. A lot has happened. I've moved twice. I took my first screen writing class. I got my wisdom teeth out, and I got braces. I bought my first pair of skinny jeans. I learned a lot about life and love. I'm excited for what this year will bring.

And since it is a new year, that means that it's time for resolutions. This year, I've decided to not set strict resolutions.  I'd rather just set goals that will make me happy. So, here are my goals:

- go on a trip (preferably off the continent)
- graduate from college
- be more dedicated to my vegetarian diet
- kiss a cute boy
- add more to my bucket list
- do something drastic with my hair
- eat something ridiculously unhealthy
- make something crafty

So, dear reader, how was your new year's? Did you set any resolutions?

December 29th, 2010

Well, it's been a week since I've blogged. That's what break does to a person. I should do a blog about how good my Christmas was (it was great, lots of family, lots of presents), or about what I got for Christmas (fluffy slipperse, Beatles Trivial Pursuit, and a new sweater, for starts), or about what I've been up to since (sleeping. Lots and lots of sleeping). But I wouldn't want to bore you....

Oh wait.
