Autumn Playlist

I've seen this list floating around Pinterest, and I thought I'd finally sit down and listen to every song. As a whole, I really like it. It's a folky-hipster collection of songs that play well together. There are a few songs I'm not crazy about, but overall, it's pretty great.

There are links to each song below, if you don't want to go to the trouble of looking up every song. I tried, as best as I could, to like to the official music videos.

I marked my favourite ones with asterisks. I'd love to hear which ones you like (or don't), and whether there's any songs you'd add to the list.

Moving Past

For the past....too long to count, I've felt like I'm just flailing around. I've had no purpose, no drive, nothing to work towards.  Sure, from time to time I'll make a little progress; I'll decide to take up running, or start a project that I really enjoy. But those things aren't helping me move forward with my life. Sure, it may stretch me in some small new way, but really, it's not helping me move on.

Yesterday, I think things might have changed a little.

We signed a contract for a new house. It's a step up, for sure. Not that we're living in squalor, but it's a small studio apartment, far from campus and our friends. Now, though, we'll be able to walk to campus, to some of our favourite restaurants, to see our friends, even to the grocery store. We will be back in a neighbourhood with people similar in age and our stage in life. Plus, this place has a dishwasher, a laundry system, multiple rooms, and lots of storage options.

And then, we got tickets for the Vans Warped Tour. It kicks off in SLC in June, and we're going! I've wanted to go for years. It's a huge step out of my comfort zone, but it feels like the right step.  As a bonus, my favourite band is headlining the show {I don't know if bands really 'headline' at Warped, but that's what I'm telling myself}.

I'm feeling much better about my life. I'm moving forward, I have things to look forward to, things to plan for. I won't be stuck here forever. Things may not be perfect, but they're moving in the way I want them to. I can't really ask for more than that.

A New Song!

This is my most favourite cover of this song. Of course, this is the only cover I've heard {not counting Glee}. I just love Hayley Williams. And the BBC.

Extreme Makeover: Desk Edition

Here I am, organizing my desk. A task that should have been done when Luke and I first moved in. Alas, I put things on shelves and called it good. Since I'd actually like to use the desk, I figured it's time to get things together.

Perhaps I should explain how I organize. First, I sit around all day and eat all my leftover Christmas treats. Then, I browse through Pinterest, looking for "inspiration".  When the guilt gets to be too much, I get up and decide to actually do some organizing.

So I turned on the Russian State Symphony Orchestra. They have amazing versions The Beatle's hit songs (which was like, all of them. Which means that I have like, 53 songs).

Then I look at all the pictures I gathered online, so I can perhaps shape my stuff into some kind of order. Here's what I'm kind of going for:

I don't mind if my space has lots of things. I just want the little things put a way and a designated shelf space for everything. Because right now, it looks like this:

And I promise I'll post pictures once it's  done.

LIGHTS

Seems somebody put out the moon
Now the road is a minefield
I can’t follow the way she moves
I can’t see past the shadows
You make the darkness disappear
I feel found when you stay near
I know where I am when you are here
My way becomes so clear

When you're gone
Will I lose control?
You're the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?

Seems somebody burned up the signs
I can’t expect the hard curves
There's no borders
There are no lines
How can I know where to turn?
You make the street lights reappear
I feel bright when you stand near
I know what I am when you are here
My place becomes so clear

When you're gone
Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?

Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?
Drive my soul

When you’re gone
Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
When you’re gone
Will I lose control?
You’re the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?

Blink

So, I went to see Blink 182 tonight. It was awesome!!!! Travis Barker is phenomenal. Like, literally. And that other guy is pretty great too. I'm not a fan of Tom. He's nasty, and somewhat full of himself. But the show was still great. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to talk tomorrow, but that's okay. The ringing in my ears is going down, too, so that's a relief. They played all my favourites, and I'm pretty proud of myself for knowing almost all the words. They played a few that I didn't recognize. But that's okay too. Mike, Katy, Luke, and I tried to figure out a way to sneak down to the floor (the boys wanted to mosh). However, we saw someone try what we were about to try, and security tackled him and carried him out, so we changed our minds.

Like I said, the show was great. The songs were awesome. I don't think I'm a fan of them live, though. Partially because they don't sound as good live, and partially because Tom's a dink. But I had fun anyway. However, the best part of the evening was the encore. After the "last" song, the lights went off, but the house lights never came up. So clearly something was going on. After 10 minutes of insessant screaming and chanting the curtain came up again, and there's my homeslice Travis Barker, playing the most wicked awesome drum solo you've ever heard. Then, somehow the platform that he's on raises about a story into the air!! And he's still playing!!! Then, somehow, they move him so it's at an almost 45 degree angle, and swing him back and forth across the stage. And he's still playing!!! Then, they tilt him so he's at a (and I'm not kidding) 90 degree angle, and yeah, he's still drumming away. Then, he starts spinning. It's like it's a merry-go-round or something, and he's perpendicular to the stage, hanging in the air, spinning. It was the sickest thing I've EVER seen. And for that, he now has my heart.
